Learn the components of being a private investigator.  Private investigations fill an important role in conducting investigations used to build criminal cases, settle civil disputes, support law enforcement efforts and protect insurance companies from fraudulent claims.  Working as private contractors for law firms, HR departments, insurance companies and many others, means that today's private investigators are expected to have relevant training


According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), there were 34,700 private investigators in the United States in 2010.  The BLS predicts that employment in this profession will grow by 20 percent by 2020.
